Once the student progresses to the Intermediate book, I also add Selected Duets Volume 1. I have found that playing duets strengthens listening skills and intonation, plus they are fun! In my lessons, I work hard to create a routine that best fits the students needs. This typically means that many of my students are not following a specific lesson plan or standard routine. Starting out, I stress fundamentals and warm-ups to help the students create a solid grasp of the instrument, before making the move towards solo repertoire. Of course, the older and more experience the student is will influence the difficulty of the routine, however, I always make sure that goals that I have set for a student are within reach. Read More

My teaching style depends upon the student! I love reaching set goals, and I verbally check in to take the students feelings, thoughts, and playing into account. We come to a decision together, and I am not the final say on any matter. I see lessons as a collaboration, as I have much to learn from this experience as well.
