I organize recitals and encourage participation in competitions, as they offer opportunities to showcase growth and receive constructive feedback. These experiences help students conquer performance anxiety and connect with their audience on a deeper level. As a member of MTAC I promote the Certificate of Merit annual testing program, that I was a Branch Chairman of for 13 years, and actually completed through senior yr in high school myself as a student. I start out my beginning Guitar students learning the "open string chords" - I teach my students how to tune their guitars in addition to identifying the note names of each open string - I teach my students "chord progressions" (using the "open string chords") - I get my students playing songs as quickly as possible - i ask my students "what songs they would like to learn?" and proceed to teach them those songs - After my students have learned the "open string chords", i progress to teaching them "barre chords" - I teach my students how to use a "capo" Read More

I teach kids with Frederick Noad's Guitar Solo Playing and also I adopt the guitar curriculum created by Austin Classical Guitar. Both methods provide several pieces that the kid plays with the teacher. I worked as a teacher assistant using the Austin Guitar Curriculum at Adams Elementary School (St Louis), and the results were great. Read More

I am very flexible with my teaching methods and put together the best style matching the student's learning strengths. Furthermore, I update and change my methods if I feel the current method is becoming ineffective. I keep my lessons interactive with the student because the time is for the student to retrieve as much information as he/she can regarding their instrument and they can build a stronger week of preparation heading into the next lesson. Currently my most used methods are teaching via classical, pop & jazz, and Suzuki methods. Read More

To say that I am passionate would be understating how I feel about music. I like to think of music as an extension of myself -- as one of the ways that I look to express myself and connect with people. Because of how I feel about music, I like to make it as fun as possible all the time -- whether I'm teaching a student or practicing something new for myself, I always try to bring out the joy in everything I do.
