My teaching style very catered to the experience of the person learning the instrument. I think it's very important that the lessons move at the pace of which the student appears to be learning. The style of music the student wants to learn is rarely steered away from, I feel that too many teachers force students to learn songs outside their preferred genre just because the song is well known. For piano I prefer Faber Piano Adventures and have different books I would recommend starting with depending on the students age and experience. For guitar and ukulele I prefer using the Hal Leonard method books. I often supplement these method books with outside sources and pieces as is appropriate for the student. For singing students, I have a wide variety of books and resources depending on the musical style. I come from a classical voice background, so when students are middle school age and older (sometimes earlier) we begin learning Italian Art songs in addition to musical theater pieces and English folk songs. My teaching career started while I was performing in Philadelphia. There was a need for music teachers in the area, so I accepted an invitation to teach to children of El Taller Puertorriqueño. What a satisfaction to see my students grow and understand the beauty of music! That was a motivation and still is today! Since then, the passion for teaching grew in me with my performing career. I moved to different states and every time I looked for venues to teach. Read More

As I teach a wide variety of instruments, I can only give a short explanation on each instruments road map, However! My classical strings students will all be started in the Essential Elements book 1. Upon completion of said book, all strings students will then move to the Suzuki books to step from beginner to intermediate strings player. Should the student grow bored of said books, I also provide a plethora of outside material to create fun challenges with more familiar music (pop tunes, video game music, easy arrangements of orchestral works, etc.) if the need arise! Setting realistic goals for my students to progress and make them interested in learning more. I like to approach teaching in a relaxed style. I find students do better when they are relaxed and comfortable. I love to see my students gain excitement to their playing as they see themselves progressing. I plan my assignments based on the students desire to improve. The more they improve the more their desire for playing is fueled. In addition, I want to expose the student to many different approaches to playing and have them choose the style that will best suit them. Read More
