My current research focuses on twenty-first century North American art songs by women composers, particularly art songs for the young singer age 16-20. I have presented on and performed this music at the 2019 and 2020 Music by Women Festivals, the 2019 and 2021 SERNATS Conference, the 2019 Georgia NATS Conference, and virtually at the NATS 2020 National Conference. My teaching experience began in college when I tutored other music majors in music theory. I then went in to become a Choral teacher for grades 6-12. I taught privately for the past 25 years, teaching those grade levels and then began teaching senior citizens almost 10 years ago. Im currently a worship director for a church in the Leesburg area where I work with people of all ages. At first, students may require a lot of assistance to get through the material, but as they progress, I teach with the intention that they will one day be able to look at a piece and teach themselves without assistance from me. This can take quite a long time and usually requires years of dedication and study.
