Depending upon what area/instrument of music I'm teaching, I use a number of different materials, including (but not limited to) Tonal Harmony (Kostka, et al.), Essential Dictionary of Music Notation, Accent on Achievement, Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, or Rock House Method (McCarthy). The skill level of the student also dictates what resources I'll use. In addition, I believe that the student should have control over his/her development as a musician, so I encourage my students to create a list of songs they wish to learn how to play. Read More

Watching a student progress and develop a passion for music as I did growing up is the most rewarding experience as a teacher. When it comes to how quickly a student will progress, there is no such thing as 'the norm.' Everyone learns at their own pace and I tailor my teaching to each and every student in this regard. At the end of each lesson, I give my students a goal for the next time I see them. Read More

I grew up in the town Poughquag which is located in the Hudson Valley Region of Eastern New York. I am twenty-two and was raised in a musical household as the second youngest of six sisters and one brother. I recently attained my bachelor degree from SUNY Fredonia in violin performance with a minor in psychology, and will also be receiving my bachelor degree in music therapy from SUNY Fredonia after I've completed my internship at Monroe One Boces which goes from September, 2018 to June, 2019. My mother is a math teacher and I've always said her most difficult 4 students were myself and my 3 brothers. I have a 5 year old son who has just started playing guitar and am thinking the same of him. What my son and I have learned from each other though is patience. As I teach him, I've learned to have patience as he progresses. As he learns, he's developed patience with me being his father and his teacher. Read More

I believe that a passion for music is something to be celebrated and nurtured. It's my job to help it grow. I still remember the first time I was able to play my favorite song on guitar. That feeling never leaves you. Instruments are hard, but with consistent practice and enough inspiration, I believe every student can achieve a level of proficiency. I follow the students in the directions they are inspired to go. Read More

My goal is always to make students self-sufficient. I want students to be able to warm-up, practice and improve on their own. I did not become a great singer until I learned how to workout problems for myself. I also want to see students gain confidence and believe that they can perform in public and accomplish their singing goals. Improving one's singing can be an avenue to gaining greater confidence in other aspects of life. Read More
