The best plan is to always make room for fun as much as possible, because the harsh reality of practice can be a downer. I emphasize learning with the interest of the student in mind. It is best to be enthusiastic, but I make sure to see where the energy level of the student is to term the approach for the session. I give helpful reminders of learning techniques to stay motivated in between lessons. Read More

I have been teaching for the last 10 years. I taught at the East Bay Waldorf School in Berkeley, CA immediately after graduating college where I taught 5-13 year olds. I have taught private lessons to all ages. I can teach lead and rhythm guitar in a variety of styles including pop, jazz, rock. I can teach improvisation and theory. I have a good educational background in theory as it was an important part of my degree so am able to go over both written and ear training in good detail. Read More

Anyone can learn when they know that they're in a supportive learning environment! My students are encouraged to make mistakes, and we find out together what can help in fixing those mistakes. I acknowledge my students' progress in each lesson so that they gain the confidence to keep moving forward. In each lesson, I am focused on meeting students where they are at, and my teaching is very adaptive. I love to engage students in their learning quest asking questions that prompt their learning and understanding of music. Read More

I use my own lesson plan. I'll start with Hal Leonard for young students, and hanon's virtuoso pianist for more advanced students. I'll use theory lessons mixed with what the student actually enjoys, because it's hard to learn what you're not interested in. I'm flexible and will adapt to the student's needs. I try to find what motivates the student to play, and guide them accordingly. Overall, the main objective is to keep the student engaged and happy about their progress, because all in all, music is about fun. Read More
