I started singing recreationally of my own volition at age 5, coming up with improvised musicals in my parents' living room and filming them with my mom's camcorder. I took advanced choir classes in middle school and high school and was the lead singer and rhythm guitarist for several rock bands throughout high school. With younger students, I focus on rhythm, simple ear training, and light reading. I will gradually introduce harmony and more intensive ear and rhythmic studies as the student progresses. I think it is important for students to apply their knowledge through performance opportunities and songwriting.
