I began playing at the age of four when I first sat down to a piano. I began creating music from the first time I started to play. From there I began taking piano lessons up until I went to study music at the University of California Santa Barbara. At UCSB I studied music composition and recording at the UCSB College of Creative Studies. After college I played keyboards in a jam band that played original music and toured all over the west coast. In 2001 I moved to Seattle and began recording and releasing my own compositions. I started teaching piano in 2005 and have loved teaching ever since. I currently have over 18 students and we have recitals twice a year.
The first half of each of my lessons will address the basics of music theory (i.e. rudiments, scales, etc.) and technique. The second half of each lesson is about having fun! We will dig deeper into the music my student is interested in, considering the songs from a musician's point of view. In dissecting the song we will learn about phrasing, feel, meter, melody, chord analysis, commonalities among styles and the history behind the music. Each lesson is individualized and I develop my curriculum based on the student's needs and interests.
I am a 25 year old guitarist who is excited to share my love of music, especially the guitar, to studients both young and old. In 2012, I graduated Ball State University with a Bachelors' of Music Degree in Music Technology. While in college I studied the classical guitar as well as jazz guitar but I also love rock n' roll, blues, metal, folk, and indie rock, almost anything with a good guitar lick. Teaching students and helping them reach their musical potential is the most fulfilling endeavor I know of.
My primary goal as an instructor as well as a performer is to create a life long passion for music and personal growth within each of my students, and making sure that each student enjoys and looks forward to their lessons each week is intregal to this goal. Whether an adult, child, beginner, or advanced, realizing the students motivation and personal goals for each lesson is important to tailoring lessons to each persons unique abilities and preferences. Music is fun and I strive to keep it that way!
Guitar: For beginners who are kids, I usually start with the FJH Beginner Guitar Method, while also implementing fun melodies they know that can be played on single strings. Once the student has progressed a bit, we will work in chords, more advanced rhythms, and songs appropriate for a recital. For older beginners, I usually start with Hal Leonard's Complete Guitar Method, while again finding songs that match their musical taste and working towards their specific goals (i.e., I really want to start a punk band with my friends next summer, or I'd love to play this Taylor Swift song at the school talent show). For adults, I always start off with the list of five: five songs and/or artists that inspire them. This gives me an idea of what they want to be learning in the coming months, and I create a path for them that leads that direction, from the very first step. We will spend a lot of time on the fundamentals (scales, chords, rhythm, sight-reading) but all in the interest of using these tools on the songs they love. Piano: Faber and Faber Book series, pop melodies, etc. (similar to above) Ukulele, Bass, Mandolin: Hal Leonard Method books, pop/rock/bluegrass riffs (similar to above). I also love working Sagreras' First Lessons on Guitar for Classical, and Jazz Standards like Misty, I Remember April, Autumn Leaves, Black Orpheus, etc.

Musika offers one-on-one, in-home guitar lessons that are designed specifically for each individual student. Whether your lesson takes place in a teacher's studio or at home, students will get the exact same lesson content, with the only difference being the location. Parents will find home guitar lessons a much more convenient option for their child, as it saves the time and costs of transporting their children to and from a studio. Younger students will find that learning to play the guitar in the comfort of their own home greatly benefits their development as they are learning in a supportive, secure, and familiar environment.
Using a half sized classical guitar with nylon strings, students can start to play guitar at age 6. A half sized guitar is easier to hold, and the nylon strings are softer on the fingers than steel strings. At this age, students will learn simple songs on the top strings. Around the age of 7 or 8, students are able to progress to playing chords. By age 10-12, students can graduate to playing a full sized guitar. Often at this age, students want to learn to play various rock music, and will therefore want to play the electric guitar.
For young beginner students, it is recommended that they start their guitar lessons by playing on a half or three-quarter sized acoustic guitar. If they can do so comfortably, older students may like to start off with a full-sized acoustic or electric guitar. There are a variety of different student model guitars available that from new, will cost between $150 - $200. This price does not include the costs of amplification or guitar cables, which will also need to be purchased for those wanting to play electric guitar. Students are more likely to have fun learning the guitar if they find it easy to play. Consider purchasing the highest quality instrument possible as these often feel nicer to use and are easier to play.
Many adults take guitar lessons! Your teacher will develop an individualized lesson plan in accordance with your musical tastes and goals. Adults taking guitar lessons for the first time can expect to learn a lot of new things, and have fun in the process!
At Musika, we appreciate that every student learns at their own pace. As such, the experienced teachers in our network produce customized guitar lessons specifically for the requirements of each individual student. Teachers can design lessons for any student, regardless of their age, experience, or ability. Some of the things students can expect to learn during their lessons are learning all the notes of the guitar, playing and rhythmic techniques such as fretting, fingering, and strumming, how to read musical notation and tablature, learning how to play a variety of different chords, such as open and barre chords, and music theory. Over time, as each student progresses, they will learn how to piece everything they have learned together, in order to form complete compositions. Students can learn to play their favorite songs, or even to write their own music!

There are only a handful of people I count in my life who were great teachers, and Laura is one of them. Her musicianship is so secure as are her technique and personality that she zeros in on my weaknesses and devises exercises to strengthen them, and during the lesson it is not "Do this, no, do that" which is unnerving to a novice. She understands the most important part of study is relaxation, so that is easy to achieve with such a confident and compassionate human. Music is her life and she is eager to share her talent with everyone. A rare find, indeed!

Ed is THE best instructor I've ever had and I've had many instructors over the years in various fields of study. Ed met us at a music store to help choose a guitar, this is after he first called and asked all the right questions. He's supplied my daughter with just the right amount of paper work and just the right amount of new techniques. By this I mean to say that Ed connects with the pace my daughter learns at. I highly recommend Ed AND Musika.

I would like to thank Polina for the series of classical piano lessons I've taken recently. Polina is a fantastic teacher and a high class performer, and I'm really happy I had a chance to meet her! I believe anyone can benefit from the teaching method Polina is practicing regardless of the student proficiency - from beginners to advanced performers. It was a pleasure for me to study classical piano courses under the guidance of such an intelligent & professional teacher! Without doubt, my playing technique has improved a lot and I have signed up for the new classes online already.

Jessie is the finest musician I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I find her overall concept of approaching an instrument to be both comprehensive and effective. Each technique she has acquired has made it possible for her to tailor her method to a variety of ages and individuals. I cannot speak more highly of Miss Jessie's abilities. Her lengthy and impressive cradecials speak for themselves. I recommend no hesitation in seeking her services!

My daughter really enjoys her lessons with Pavel. She is an absolute beginner and Pavel is right with her as she learns the basics. She is completely engaged and always looks forward to her lesson. He packs a lot of learning into their 30 minute time slot - he gets right to it as soon as he walks in the door! He is a great teacher - we highly recommend!

Brett is an accomplished musician, who shared his knowledge at a level that my five year old understands. He is polite and relaxed in his mannerisms but take a serious approach to focusing on the lesson. He is very patient and engaging with the attention span you'd expect from a kindergartener. His motto ever is "sometime you learn faster by going slow"

Bill has been a great teacher for both my 6 yr. old and my 8 yr. old. He is always on time, keeps them engaged, and gives them just enough of a challenge for the next week. They are both beginners, but I am surprised by how much they already know after just a month or so of lessons. Both kids are practicing willingly and look forward to lesson.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
