I have been teaching privately part time for the past 4 years working with students in grades K-12. My main goal in lessons is for my students to not only succeed at a new skill once, but to be confident in their ability to repeat their success in practice at home and at our next lessons. I encourage positive feedback and positive "self-talk" as a means of boosting self-efficacy. I think an important part of learning is goal setting and outlining specific, achievable steps to reach that goal so that progress can be tracked and the process of learning can become less ambiguous. In addition to lesson and scale books I like to heavily supplement technical material, finger strengthening exercises, repertoire appropriate to playing level, and theory. I also send students home with listening homework from time to time, which includes listening to works from famous composers on youtube and then having a brief conversation about those pieces at the start of our next lesson. I believe understanding the scope of an instrument from more than just the technical aspect of it really enhances the learning experience and makes students value the techniques they are learning. I have performed at numerous venues, such as Stanford University, Benaroya Hall, and the Paramount Theatre. In high school, I won multiple awards and scholarships for my participation in school and community music programs. I have soloed with community and professional orchestras, including the Encanto Orchestra, the Issaquah Philharmonic, and the Rainbow City Orchestra. As a orchestra member, I have played with numerous professional and community orchestras in the Seattle Area, sometimes holding leadership positions - I currently play with the Everett Philharmonic. I feel immense joy and reward when I know that my students are discovering a new love for music, so I create a unique plan for each student that allows them to progress at their own pace. I set realistic goals with each student for what they hope to achieve by the next week, and I work together with them on how to practice. I'm a lifelong musician and grew up playing piano with my grandparents, who are both concert pianists and taught me how to play. I have my A.A. in music from Mt. San Jacinto C.C. and have studied under a number of great professional artists. I have been in a ZZ Top and Led Zeppelin tribute band, as well as a 00's and 10's rock cover band. I feel each of my students are unique. I love watching my students' level of musical understanding progress. I love seeing the dedication and determination begin to heighten as the lessons progress. Within each lesson I point out areas that need to be worked on as well as areas of improvement. Seeing one's progress is the most important element to me for my students.
