I am a music coach that helps students push through the frustration that comes with learning something new, to the gratifying victory of reaching personal goals. With typical and non-typically developing students, adaptive lessons are possible with the use of larger picks or adaptive instruments. Everyone learns differently and as a music teacher, I adapt to the needs of my students. My music therapy experience has prepared me to think outside of the box and provide a musical experience that students will enjoy and want to continue into the future. Read More

While there is no "One-size-fits-all" for all students, I start most students off with Essential Elements or Suzuki. As they progress I try to include pieces they like, pop songs, and different genres. The variety helps them stay engaged, learn a bit about different styles to broaden their knowledge, but also, have fun. As they get intermediate levels the paths diverge. Some of my students are doing Jazz improvisation, some of them, composition, and others are getting ready to audition for college. Read More

I teach them to play scales with a metronome and they are usually playing 16 th notes and counting it out while they play it in the first month.I want to get them off and running. I teach them to read chord charts in the first month and have students reading notation in F and G clef in 5-6 hours worth of lesson time. My theory teacher Mr Lormand, had a master from Julliard and was a stickler for the vernacular and so am I, my grandmother was a school teacher and I get a lot from her as well.I get my students to buy a Harvard Dictionary of music for reference. My method of teaching involves a musically comprehensive approach. Through practice in rhythm, harmony, melody, theory and ear training, my players become well rounded musicians. The goal is to be able to have an intelligent musical conversation with your instrument, and to know how to play whatever you want to play. In my lessons reading sheet music is optional, but not required. I want my students to know that there is more to playing than just what's in the ink. Read More
