Nothing is more important to me than my students' personal goals and having a discussion on how we can achieve those goals. I always want to make sure my students are moving forward in their creative process, so I like to check in with them at each lesson to discuss their progress. It's definitely important to me that my students practice on their own (especially if we're having lessons once/week.) I have used many different methods over the years and will supplement any method book to meet the individual needs of the student. My preferred method for young students is the FJH Harris Young Beginner's Guitar Method series. For older students I tend to use either Mel Bay or Hal Leonard methods to teach the fundamentals and then add onto them with whatever suits the student best.
