ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

BM, Belmont University, Commercial Music

Overview:
I'm a motivated and passionate teacher who loves to work with students, sharing my love for all kinds of music. I started playing piano when I was seven, and have regularly studied music under the tutelage of several wonderful and knowledgeable teachers ever since, and I continue taking private guitar lessons even today. I received a Bachelor of Music degree in Commercial Music from Belmont University in 2017. Playing with a wide variety of ensembles in a wide variety of styles, including rock/metal outfits, pop acts, country bands, jazz and fusion groups, and classical guitar duos and trios, has definitely been one of the defining aspects of my life-long music education.
EXPERIENCE
My career as a teacher began 14 years ago, at the age of 14, giving guitar lessons to my friends and classmates around town. Since then I have continued to teach guitar, music theory, and ear-training to beginning and intermediate musicians of all ages and backgrounds. Emphasizing the direct correlation between consistent practice and gradual, sustained improvement is an integral part of my personal teaching method; one of the most rewarding moments of teaching and learning music, for both student and teacher, is when a student sees and internalizes the progress they've made as a result of the work they've put in.
METHODS USED
For elementary school-aged students and younger who are just starting out, I will typically see if the student is familiar with, and a fan of, any classic or contemporary pop or rock music. If so, then basic chords and rudimentary music theory is where I like to start. If not, then teaching the student familiar, single-line melodies, using them to build up to basic scalar concepts and toward a more classical-oriented education is appropriate. With adult beginners I will usually move right into basic chords for songs they are familiar with and enjoy. One of my goals for most lessons is to make sure that at least some music is made, and some other music is heard, so playing and listening is big part of how I teach.
LESSON STYLE
Nothing is quite as rewarding as seeing a student develop a real passion for music! Because of that, I think it's important for each student to progress at their own pace. I facilitate this by encouraging students to set goals for themselves and by exposing students to as much music as possible. With every student I seek to assess their individual waxing or waning interest in the material and adjust accordingly. I am sensitive to the challenges of growth and development in things worth doing, and will always be honest with students regarding not only the difficulties of such an undertaking, but the fact that they are absolutely able to do whatever they set their mind to!

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
