Regardless of age or skill level, my students are all equal to me. As a beginner, learning a new intstrument can be tedious, but that is the pathway of finding the love in the instrument. I have 12 years of classical training on the violin, 8 years of classical training on the piano, have taught private violin and viola lessons to more than 300 students over the course of 6 summers through the Hempfield School District, participated in the NAfME All-Eastern Orchestra, performed for a year as the bluegrass and old-time fiddler in the Joe Hillman Band (Philadelphia, PA), performed as the celtic fiddler in The Ogham Stones (Lancaster, PA) for one year, and have led my own band for 2 years as a singer, songwriter and guitar player. My method of coaching focuses on three main areas: diaphragmatic breathing, vocal fold alignment, and proper laryngeal positioning. These three areas have a direct impact on tone quality, placement and ease of transition from chest voice to mix voice. The first few lessons with a new student always begins with good diaphragmatic breathing exercises combined with edging techniques for fold alignment up to the first vocal bridge. Once the student feels comfortable in both of those areas, I then combine those areas with proper larynx positioning to seamlessly navigate their first vocal bridge! Read More
