Hey there, I'm Sky! I play a lot of instruments, compose scores for TV and games, make beats, produce other people's stuff - if music is involved, I tend to be involved. I've studied with a number of phenomenal teachers in the classical, jazz, and eclectic performance and producing world and my students regularly excel in competitions, ensembles, auditions, and creating/producing their own music! Somewhere along the line, it became obvious that my life is only complete when Im making music. Read More

for beginning students who are children and just starting out, i typically start with the basic elements of either voice or guitar, depending on which lesson you have chosen. once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire which is age - appropriate of course, in hopes of preparing them for a first recital, perhaps. for adults, i try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. To teach reading guitar tablature I use a guitar method book written by a local guitarist in Kansas City, David Smart. In the progression of teaching and learning, you should learn chord charts and standard notation for the reason mentioned above and at least be familiar with how to read tab so you can decipher it when you encounter it. Knowing how to read chord charts, standard notation, and guitar tablature is the complete suite of learning how to learn music from books. Read More

I prefer an individualized, tailored teaching method. Your passion and interest should inspire your learning. I see my job as then taking that passion and working to grow and develop it through specifically designed lessons and practice routines, personalized to you as the student. I strongly believe the most important aspect of learning is fostering a love for your instrument. Utilizing my strong background in theory and performance, I focus on various elements of instrumentation and technique combined with a foundation in theory to produce well-rounded, capable musicians.
