Taking lessons with Damon Carlucci, I learned how to delve into genres for music knowledge. Here I also learned Jazz and what it meant to be a Jazz musician. Ever since then, I have been using what I have learned to see the notes I want to play on the fretboard and adapt it to whatever setting, feeling or group I am playing in. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Students are able to select their own music and share their interests with me. Read More

I've been lucky enough to perform all over the U.S. and a lot of Europe by touring with different bands in high school, college, and independent touring groups. I've been teaching private lessons off and on for about 5 years now. It's been a goal of mine to learn as many instruments as possible throughout my life and focus on the instruments I love. I've been able to learn the piano, organ, all kinds of guitars, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, percussion instruments, and vocals. Read More

My favorite thing in the world is seeing someone I teach fall in love with music. Because of this I find it most important that my students feel comfortable and not rushed or pushed to hard, I believe music comes best when studied at the students own pace. If there is something you want to learn or a goal you create then I will help you get there, if theres something that doesnt make sense and you want to recap it then thats what well do. Read More

My method/my style is as mentioned above: My focus is always on the individual student, their music interests and goals AND having a BLAST! My "style" is centered around enjoyment and realistic accomplishments, so the atmosphere is REWARDING! I do begin with foundational skills, music theory that is applicable to the knowledge level of my students, and technique building. However, I want my students to start to play songs as soon as possible and we only work on songs that THEY choose - I do not force students to learn songs that I select or songs that a book tells them to. I believe that the best way to learn how to play is to play what you like to listen to. Practicing the repertoire is as important as the mechanical and technical practices of the instrument. Based on this, I often try to identify the techniques used in the songs that the student likes and whenever possible, we work on the technical part applied to a given song. This way, studying becomes more enjoyable and dynamic. Read More

I encourage my students to practice smart instead of long. This is especially important for young students. I teach my students to self-evaluate their own playing. When difficult areas are recognized, this is where the practicing focus should be. Above all, music should be enjoyable! Hard work disguised as FUN is my goal. I am great at giving positive feedback. I enjoy celebrating success. I feel that it is important to let the student set the pace and then encourage from there. Read More
