I am extremely passionate about the voice and love teaching music to students of all ages! I've been a music teacher for 6+ years and taught at a K-8 school. Additionally, I have 10 years of experience teaching lessons. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a concentration on classical voice and composition. I teach most styles of singing- including classical, opera, musical theatre, pop, rock, country, and jazz. I love playing piano and guitar and will teach you all about chords, music theory, and how to play like your favorite artists! Read More

I couldn't count how many students I've seen that only learn songs and later on, forget them and don't almost any knowledge from what they played. If you understand what happens "behind the curtains" of the music you like, dissect it and learn how to make something similar; that knowledge becomes part of your vocabulary and helps shape your music identity. That's what I strive to do with every student. Read More

I aim to equip each and every one of my students with a level of musical understanding that will reward them with their own respect and passion for music. I believe that self-confidence and setting goals is important for development and so I encourage my students to embrace their own musical ideas while adjusting my teaching methods to each of them. I teach to give my students a great sense of self-confidence and to provide them with an understanding of musical expression so that they may unlock their full potentials. Read More

Every student is different, but all students need to be motivated and inspired. I try to find the right “buttons” for each individual to help them become excited about learning their instrument. I approach my teaching with enthusiasm, patience and realistic but high expectations. I want my students to feel comfortable and safe and be able to make mistakes without fear or embarrassment. Music is supposed to bring joy, not stress. Read More

I teach them to play scales with a metronome and they are usually playing 16 th notes and counting it out while they play it in the first month.I want to get them off and running. I teach them to read chord charts in the first month and have students reading notation in F and G clef in 5-6 hours worth of lesson time. My theory teacher Mr Lormand, had a master from Julliard and was a stickler for the vernacular and so am I, my grandmother was a school teacher and I get a lot from her as well.I get my students to buy a Harvard Dictionary of music for reference. This usually correlates to the songs that they want to learn how to play, and they end up learning new techniques that they'll use often in the genres of music they thoroughly enjoy. I encourage students to share with me their favorite bands, and if it happens to be someone I'm unfamiliar with, it becomes a learning experience for us both as I teach the techniques required to play their favorite tunes. Nothing is more important to me than my students' personal goals and having a discussion on how we can achieve those goals. I always want to make sure my students are moving forward in their creative process, so I like to check in with them at each lesson to discuss their progress. It's definitely important to me that my students practice on their own (especially if we're having lessons once/week.) I like to have my students record themselves (using the voice memo feature on their phone or, if possible, another recording device) so they can listen back to their lessons and practice between lessons.
