For Guitar I feel that it is best for everyone to start out learning classical and then branch out to other styles. However,  I , as a teacher want to teach everything if I can , while at the same time really focusing on what the students goals are in learning to play and what music gets them excited about playing. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance.
