It helps students visualize the basic techniques for sitting and playing the piano in a way that will prevent injury. From there we walk through the book until the student understands how the keys and reading music works. For beginner students, I try to get them to learn a song by the first lesson.  Eventually, I start them off by focusing on technique (learning notes and scales), tone development, etudes, and repertoire.  Efficiency of effort in the fingers, usage of air, and holding of the body in order to produce a beautiful sound is a top priority.  I believe the connection between the mind and body is very important, and you will find me often asking questions to engage the students in being aware of what they are doing as they are playing. I am an upbeat energetic teacher who loves music and loves teaching. I have played saxophone since I was 8 years old, and I am now in my late 50's. I began teaching music at the age of 15, primarily guitar and piano lessons for beginners ages 7-14 in my hometown of Parker, CO. At 16 I began teaching my students basic music theory and intermediate instrumental instruction. I moved to Boston in 2012 to pursue an undergraduate degree in Songwriting from Berklee College of Music in Boston, still actively teaching throughout my curriculum.
