For beginning students who are children, I often use the Andrew Scott Method for flute. When the student is considerably advance I will use the Rubank Book for flute begginers. Once the student is at a comfortable level, I will proceed to introduce him to Body Mapping. Graduated with bachelor’s degree of Music from Musashino Academia Musicae and received his Artist Diploma from Toho Gakuen School of Music both in his native country, Japan. He taught the flute at the Yamaha Music Foundation for eight years before he came to study in Boston. I always emphasize musicality in my teaching, because if as performers, we are focusing on being expressive, we'll convey our love of music! If a student can think about what the music is expressing, they will be more motivated to keep practicing.  I focus on the fundamentals such as tone, rhythm, dynamics, timbre, basic music theory and history. I always give specific positive feedback, along with a tip for improvement. Finally, I always go over how, how much, and what to practice in lessons, so the student can learn what to listen for and focus on outside of the lesson, and keep improving during the week. For all students, I encourage them to use Trevor Wye practice books, which include my favorite Reichert and Taffanel Gaubert exercises, warmups, and etudes. While learning the fundamentals, I have some beginner-level pieces and etudes to help hone these skills before students move onto more advanced repertoire.
