As a flutist trained with teachers in jazz, classical, and pop, I am experienced playing and teaching many styles including classical, opera, swing, pop, and musicals. I am a life-long musician [age 5 - present] from a family of musicians who have played with everyone from Fanny Brice (my grandfather) to Benny Goodman (my mother) to Steve Miller (myself). I attended Berklee College of Music in Boston , MA from 1975-1979 and left (5 weeks short of my degree) to perform in a rock band who toured for 5 years in the US and Canada. For Flute students I use the Trevor Wye Beginners Book for the Flute. Clarinet I use the Rubank Method books. In fall of 2022 I traveled to Vienna, Austria to study flute performance, chamber music, and composition. I was a finalist in the International Music Competition and a Platinum Awardee in the Beethoven Music Competition. I have also had the great privilege of performing at the La Melodieuse festival with composer Yuko Uebayashi and flutist Carol Wincenc. Teaching is the most rewarding aspect of my career as it is an important way for me to share music with others. I first started teaching private flute lessons in 2013 working primarily with K-12 students. In 2015, I taught flute sectionals and music classes for middle school students as a counselor at the University of Colorado Boulder Summer Music Academy. I also served as Event Coordinator for the University of Colorado Boulder's Teaching Peace Through Music chapter, where I helped plan and promote classes on music education and learned from instructors working with underprivileged youth.
