For beginning and intermediate students, I like to assign short pieces from method books such as Student Instrumental Course and Rubank. For more advanced students, I will help them explore their particular interests, introduce them to traditional repertoire, and for jazz/rock/pop students, aid them in the process of transcribing the music they love, which benefits their vocabulary as well as their ears. I always begin lessons with some form of warm up to focus on beauty in tone and then I follow that with exercises that build technique. I am happy to work with students with whatever method book they are currently using but I am also happy to suggest method books and literature that I feel could further guide their growth. I began teaching private lessons in 2005, and I have a variety of teaching experiences. I have since substitute taught every kind of subject, and I've taught general music K-5.  I have mentored conservatory level students when I was in grad school, I taught flute to non-flute music education majors, and I've taught undergraduate students that were pre-music.  I taught 3-8 year olds music at Laurel Hill Summer Camp in East Setauket, Long Island. I've also taught workshops on South American Folk Music with Alturs Duo, as well as flute masterclasses. I am also working through the Assembly Theater in northern Rhode Island as one of their two pool music directors. I have worked at ccri as a student tutor and assistant teacher.
