My experience in teaching began in college, teaching younger college students through my schools mentorship program. I also shadowed high school and middle school students lessons through the Hartt School Community division. I was able to learn to teach these students guided by several experienced and accomplished flute instructors. Now currently I am an adjunct flute instructor at NYU. I began teaching when I was in High School, where I had several students of varying ages and skill levels.  I taught private lessons in their homes.  I encourage regular practice, and weekly lessons.  A mixture of method books and my own personal written lessons I have found to be the most effective teaching strategy. Books with a variety of popular solos I also utilize.  Method books are necessary for skill, but can get boring and repetitive for younger students.  Keeping things fresh and interesting is my main focus in teaching. Because I feel like you can't learn technique without musicality, I think it is important to begin with that in mind and apply the skills we learn in the method book to the piece and visa versa. Luis D. is a riveting, up and coming flutist from New York City. He is a consummate stylist, enjoying a wide range of styles from the Baroque to new music. Even at a young age Luis showed promise. He was a student with the Young Artist Program at the Kaufman Center while he attended High School at the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts. World famous Tony Bennett, the President of the Sinatra School, ound Luis in the hall one day and called him a “cool cat”, and then helped him get the opportunity to perform in Carnegie Hall with Alexander Markov, one of the top violin virtuoso's in the realm of classical music.
