I have been teaching music lessons, both on a freelance basis and at the Laconia Music Center, since graduating college in the Spring of 2009. I have also been playing woodwind instruments in a professional capacity since that time. My work as a performer informs my work as an educator and vice-versa. I am afforded the great luxury of musical dynamism by living in New York City, and I am as comfortable in a jazz club as I am reading classical music, or in the horn section of a funk band. Read More

It's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Sometime I would bring my soprano or tenor saxophone with me and create music with a student by trying to show him how music works. Read More

During my undergraduate years I was fortune to go on Domestic tours every semester where I performed with the Wind Ensemble, Choir, and Handbell Choir. In 2013 I toured internationally to Asia where chamber music was performed and taught to the students of selected academies and music programs. in 2016 I was asked to return to Asia and be the Artistic Director for the tour where I would oversee rehearsals, design the program, communicate with prospective donors for the tour, and perform as a soloist. I have been teaching music since I was a young high school student. Over the years, I have crafted a unique and open method to teaching music that makes students feel engaged with their practice. I started my journey in middle school on the saxophone, taking my studies to the esteemed William Paterson University in New Jersey. Over my years of study there and in New York, I connected with other instruments I played such as the flute, piano, and guitar, and taught each of them along the way. Read More

I use standard method books, along with personal sheets of exercises I have developed through the years. I publish my own solo books with accompaniments, which I also use. These books are primarily classical pieces, but I also use digital accompaniments for jazz and popular music. Theory and ear training are also part of my lessons. My lesson books include Rubank books for beginning students, and Rose, Andersen, and Bassi studies for more advanced students. Read More

My ultimate goal is to help students develop a love for playing and being around music. The last thing I want is a discouraged student or one that has become bored with music. Therefore, I will set realistic goals for my students so that they are not overwhelmed, but at the same time are constantly engaged and challenged by the material. I like to teach both by ear and by reading music, which accommodates different learning styles a student may have. Read More

I always begin a lesson with having the student play a song/piece of their choice, so that they can feel confident and comfortable in their own skin and in the lesson space. For wind instruments, long tones and scales will occur at the beginning of the lesson, and will be followed by study of an etude and/or piece of repertoire. I will ask the student to sing through the piece, so that the student can make a connection with their own voice and with the music, followed by the student reading through the piece with their instrument.
