For beginning students, I start teaching fundamentals through the Rubank Essential Elements book. As students move toward intermediate-advanced levels I introduce the Jeanne Baxtresser book of Orchestral Excerpts and the Taffanel-Gaubert book for technique. I bring in a piece each lesson for sight-reading practice to encourage students to read music on their toes. Additionally, through practicing scales, students learn music theory and notation. Motivating students with my teaching artist skills, is one of my key point to increase the passion for music in the student. I consider myself a laid back teacher who still has solid expectations. I understand that each student's feasible time commitment may be different and I would like to honor that. With that said, I expect my students to put time into their music, because that is the only way to make progress and to maximize their ultimate enjoyment of playing an instrument. I love teaching private lessons, and I have 12 years of experience doing so.  I have been playing flute for 26 years, and I earned my Bachelor's in Music Education and Flute Performance from SUNY Fredonia, and my Master's degree in Flute Performance from the Hartt School.
