Then I will choose from appropriate method books depending on the student's skill level. I normally use the Standard of Excellence method books for most of my students; however, I am open minded to adjusting to each individual student's musical needs, whether it be Jazz, Classical, or whatever style music the student is focusing on. For Drummers, I prefer the Haskell Harr Method, or the Buddy Rich Method Book, as well as the Breeze Easy Method Book. I am a passionate flutist that loves teaching flute privately in addition to performing. In May of 2022, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from The Hartt School of Music with a BM in Flute Performance. While I was there, I studied with Janet Arms, flutist of New York City Opera. I have also extensively studied with Dr. Barbara Hopkins, Assistant Principal of The Hartford Symphony Orchestra. My advanced students I like to introduce solo repitoire as well as more advance studies on their respective instruments, as well as more comprehensive scale and tone exercises. For elementary students and some middle schoolers, I usually either work out of Standard of Excellence or Essential Elements book 1 to begin their studies or continue where they left off. For high schoolers and more advanced middle schoolers, I like to have them play solo flute pieces that fit with their ability level.
