I tailor my teaching to what my students want to learn and what kinds of music they are interested in. I try to teach my students the fundamentals in order to succeed. While I do teach repertoire, my main goals are to foster a passion for music and the ability to approach new music my students may encounter. I structure lessons to be as fun as possible while also helping students grow musically. For beginner students, I typically start by teaching from Flute 101: Mastering the Basics by Phyllis Avidan Louke and Patricia George. If the student is in a band or orchestra program, I make sure to incorporate any method books or music being taught in that program into my lessons as well. I also use workbooks and games to teach beginning music theory and karate belt levels to encourage younger students to learn their scales. Read More

For me teaching is incredibly rewarding. It brings me great pride to see my students grow and as musicians and reach their personal goals. For each student I like to set specific, small weekly and lesson goals as well as broader long term goals, with the intention that each small goal will bring us closer to the large one. I also understand that each student has different learning styles and paces which is why I do not have one specific curriculum for every student. Read More
