I find that the most important part of studying an instrument is that the student gains an appreciation of music. Therefore, I make it an important part of my lessons to work on at least one thing that student is particularly interested in. I find that praising students often even when they make small gains is good encouragement and serves to further encourage them to play well and enjoy what they play. Read More
Instruments: Piano Trumpet Flute Clarinet Double Bass
Music has been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started playing the piano when I was 7 and from there my love for music grew. Since then I have picked up many other instruments including but not limited to, the trumpet, stand-up bass, bass guitar, french horn, flute, and clarinet. I have played with many different bands in the DC, VA, MD area with genres varying between classical, jazz, latin, ska, and funk. Read More

I tend to use Accent on Achievement, the Breeze-Easy Methods, and the Belwin/Alfred Student Instrumental Course for young and developing players. As the student advances, I use the Rubank Advanced Method Volume I, then transfer to method books specific to the particular instrument being studied. Read More

While I personally am primarily a classical musician, I make a point of including any style that is of special interest to the student in order to make music as enjoyable and relatable as possible. Instruments: Piano Flute
A good technical foundation is the hallmark of musical performance, appreciation and motivation. I believe the student witnessing their own progress develop serves a greater motivation than any empty words a teacher can say. Their own satisfaction prompts them to practice more, fed by the very spark of musical desire they possess within them. Practicing is not fun, but playing music is. To be able to pick up new music and play it on the spot are the moments of vindication that makes the student realize their efforts have truly been worth it. Read More
