For students of all ages, I like to lead with the quote from Marcel Moyse; "Practicing is a matter a time, patience and intelligent work", for I believe that once this is applied to the idea of practicing and general encounters with ones instrument, then success and progress is guaranteed. Aside from that principle, I like the idea of independent work from students to keep them accountable on the journey to becoming a musician but a more interactive and demonstrative approach during the lesson to give students an idea of what needs to be done while being that good role model so that they may keep motivated work hard at becoming the best possible musicians. Hello! My Name is Ms. Katie, an enthusiastic teacher who loves working with students of all ages and abilities. I enjoy sharing the gift of music by inspiring students to achieve their goals. I have a bachelor's degree in music education from Michigan State University, studying classical and jazz, and am certified in Michigan and Georgia with two teaching licenses, prek-12 grade. I started teaching as a teacher's assistant at the age of 12, a great opportunity to shadow a great teacher/violinist and violist, Alesia Byrd Johnson. Read More

I love playing the flute and being able to share my passion with others. I earned my BM in 2007 from Florida State University. There were so many wonderful playing opportunities here and as an undergraduate I was playing in the top orchestra. I was also a member of the world renown Marching CHIEFS where I served as section leader to 50 plus flute players. One of the more unique ensembles I played in was the Andean music ensemble, Aconcagua, where I played the zampona (panpipes) and the quena (Andean flute). Read More

I am a sensitive and determined instructor and I love teaching music and sharing its beauty. I am currently completing my studies at Kennesaw State University where I will be obtaining a degree in Saxophone Performance. While attending Kennesaw I have had copious teaching and performing opportunities. Prior to beginning my studies at Kennesaw I attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC), where I had the opportunity to play lead saxophone in all of the schools music ensembles. Read More

As a lifelong band kid, I have a passion for sharing music with anyone who is willing to learn. In May 2017, I graduated from Mercer University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education. I experienced teaching all levels (K-12) during my time at Mercer; however, I completed my student teaching as a general music teacher at Porter Elementary School. Because of this, I am not only qualified to teach flute and piccolo, but recorder, as well! Read More

I've learn that the most important part of educating my students is to teach to their learning style and ability while giving them some strong encouragement and guidance. I first start with an assements of where the students skills are and their mindset. I try to findout what they want to due and what they like to due. Sometimes students dont truly know. This is important for me because it sets the foundation for how the lessons will be planned out week to week. Read More

I began teaching private flute lessons while in college in Ohio, and really expanded my individual lesson techniques while living in Phoenix. In addition to teaching large groups of flute beginners and intermediate students within the band setting at a public elementary school, I also excel in teaching beginners individeually at whatever age. My favorite part of teaching is seeing the "spark" in a student's eyes when understanding is reached, and they can do something they were struggling with before. Read More
