My teaching experience goes back to after college days, as I began teaching private lessons two years ago, and have been consistently teaching in the classroom and at home for 4 years. I always encourage regular practice on a consistent basis because its the only way to progress and be great. I've found that helping students learn their interested genre makes them stay passionate about piano and motivate them to practice and learn more. Read More

I love watching my students grow and develop into wonderful, passionate musicians. In order to see this growth, it is important to provide an environment in which a student feels free to express themselves. As I believe expression and creativity to be the fundamentals of music making, a student needs to be able to have fun and be themselves during a lesson. As soon as a student becomes disinterested, the ability to grow and make music has been lost. Read More

The most important thing when learning a new instrument is having fun! That is the goal in all of my lessons. This is why after a review of what we learned in the previous lesson, I always introduce something new! Every week you will have something new to practice, whether it is based on the previous week's material or a completely new concept. It is important to practice everything you learn in order to develop muscle memory. Read More

I use books recommended to me by the music stores, Opus Winds in Decatur, Ga. I also consult with other music teachers at times and shop for music that my students tell me they would like to learn. I also tell them they can shop at musicnotes.com and I will help them learn to play pieces they like. There is something to be learned from the way any genre of music is composed. Read More

I have played professionally in big bands and started my own band in a corporate environment. I have led church orchestras and played various instruments in the church as well and also have sung solo works and participated in church choirs. I enjoy singing in a casual environment karaoke style. My primary focus has been teaching others to play and to perform their own music. Read More

I firmly believe in individual learning processes. Once I determine each student's learning style, I design my lessons to adhere to that style. Most students prefer a combination of vocal instruction and hands-on demonstration of theory and technique. It is exciting and rewarding to me to meet the student where they are and work with them in a manner that is comfortable for them. Each student is allowed to progress at their own pace and style which allows their individuality to shine. Read More
Instruments: Drums
For beginning students I try to go slow and make sure that they get the fundamentals and essentials down. My beliefs are that learning each stage well will help expedite the process of learning and playing later in life. At some point shortly after the fundamentals we will begin on solo literature and possibly duet literature. I always want to tailor my lessons to the student, so that they come away both a better musician and learning music that they want to play. Read More
