I have been a music educator in the public schools for over 40 years having taught in Austin, Texas and currently in Fort Worth, Texas. Many of my students have gone to play their instruments in college bands throughout the state. Several former students are currently teaching music at the secondary and college level. I do not approach my teaching to focus on a student's future as a musician. All make individual choices on musical endeavors. Read More

I began teaching part time when I was in college. After moving to Dallas, I continued to teach part time while attending graduate school. Upon graduation, I began teaching full time during the day at public schools and evenings in my own studio. Encouraging reguler practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for my students. This tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the flute. Read More

I am a sixth semester student at Berklee College of Music, dual majoring in saxophone performance and jazz composition, and have studied with many inspiring professors as well as learned from many amazing educators. Since entering Berklee I have been able to not only study the material and concepts, but I have also gotten to study professors and how they educate students of all different backgrounds, all different levels of understanding, and how they navigate teaching a class with students who are all at different stages and levels of grasping material. I believe that it is important to tailor lessons to my individual students, helping to foster a love of music and learning. I think it is important for my students to have goals that they are striving to achieve. They can be big goals, like making it into a college of choice, but I also think small ones are important, like mastering the Bb major scale. We work towards goals and celebrate accomplishments together to help drive each student's passion. Read More

A mixture of exercises, etudes, literature and theory to make sure that a student is a well-rounded musician, not just a flutist. Special attention is given to UIL and all-region material, as well as fundamentals. I'm stern, but extremely patient. Students are expected to practice and be well prepared, but the material chosen is fun and engaging! Read More
