As the student progresses I begin introducing them to solo repertoire, scales studies, and jazz improvisation. My approach is much different with adult students. I ask them what are their musical goals and from there I can create a curriculum based on adult students needs and wants. I began teaching in my sophomore year of college at the age of 19. I started by giving thirty minute to one hour lessons to local students. I soon began leading masterclasses for the flute students of the local middle and high schools. Most recently, I taught a masterclass to a large group (30-40) of high school flute students. Oftentimes I tailor lessons that ive created in my past to create lesson plans for individual students. I oftentimes use action research methods in helping me determine whether or not the teaching method that is being used in the lesson is effective for the student receiving lessons.
