For beginning flutists, I typically start with the Rubank Elementary Method so that they can have a basic grasp of the fundamentals. Beyond that, I introduce books according to their musical goals and needs. Some of the books my students have studied out of are the Rubank Intermediate/Advanced books and the Melodious and Progressive Studies edited by Cavally. I was then invited to move back to my college town of Brookings, South Dakota to be their middle school band director. When taking on beginner students, I typically use a blend of method books and novice musical pieces to begin to build musicianship. With intermediate musicians, I tend to seek out anything of interet to the student while incorporating harder repertoire to strengthen musicianship and to continue to peek interest in music. With adult musicians, I let them guide me to their area of interest, and I capitalize on that to guide them to better musicianship, no matter what their skill level may be. Read More

Having patience is key to being a good teacher. I realize many students will learn at different paces so it's important to work with kids on an individual level to make sure they're learning most effectively. Positive reinforcement through encouragement and setting attainable goals is another way of ensuring my students are making progress. I am a passionate instructor who believes that learning to speak this universal language is one of the best ways to bring communities and people together. I graduated from Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver June of 2019 and have been teaching privately for the past two years.
