My approach to learning an instruments is to have the students learn to play by ear first before they can start learning to read music. I find that most students are able to progress quickly because it frees them to focus on the playing the instruments rather than reading notes. I started teaching in 2012, I took some time off after school and traveled to Shanghai-China. There I taught at Rubato Music, a private music studio. I gave lessons to children and adults, had my first experience introducing the instrument to novice students. I took notes from colleague and learned from more experienced teachers on ways to better explain/demonstrate lesson material.
