I like to understand a student on a musical level, thus letting their ability level and their drive push me in the direction most useful for the student's success. I encourage them by setting specified goals and show them how to attain them while guiding them through any necessary musical concepts they may meet along the way. I gain from my students' accomplishments a sense of pride, which makes me work just as hard for my students as they do for me. Read More

I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2004, I graduated from the University of Mary Hardin Baylor with a Bachelor Degree in Music Education. I've performed with the Waterloo Wind Band (Austin), the Austin Symphonic Band, the Cypress Symphonic Band, and the Shimmer Flute Choir. In high school, I attended the Texas All State Band (flute), and the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest (flute and piano). Read More

My methods differ for each instrument. For piano I will start with Alfred's basic piano course if the student is a beginner. It helps students visualize the basic techniques for sitting and playing the piano in a way that will prevent injury. From there we walk through the book until the student understands how the keys and reading music works. After this, I start to assign different songs and/or assignments that match the student's learning style and interest in music. Read More

My teaching style is positive and encouraging. I want each of my students to progress at their own pace while I strive to challenge them in constructive ways to ensure rewarding progress. Everyone learns differently and I work to tailor every aspect of my lessons to meet the specific needs of each student. Building a comfortable and respectful relationship is very important to me. I want to make sure each student feels that I have their best interest in mind and to never be afraid to ask questions or ask for help. Read More

Having patience is key to being a good teacher. I realize many students will learn at different paces so it's important to work with kids on an individual level to make sure they're learning most effectively. Positive reinforcement through encouragement and setting attainable goals is another way of ensuring my students are making progress. I want to relate to students on a personal level as well and to link what their passionate about with the music that I teach them. Read More

I ask all of my students to be prepared for their lessons with a notebook and pencil for lesson notes and assignments. I ask them to bring any materials they have and will often recommend books and supplemental material I have had success with. I believe in writing down notes that help students understand what they are learning, exactly what students should practice, and setting goals for their practice and overall progress. Read More
