I began teaching music at the age of 15, primarily guitar and piano lessons for beginners ages 7-14 in my hometown of Parker, CO. At 16 I began teaching my students basic music theory and intermediate instrumental instruction. I moved to Boston in 2012 to pursue an undergraduate degree in Songwriting from Berklee College of Music in Boston, still actively teaching throughout my curriculum. I have now taught over 200 students ages 4 to 64 a wide variety of music-related subjects, including: piano, guitar, bass, voice, music theory, D.A.W. and notation software, and contemporary songwriting. I like starting with the song approach. Learning a song you love is a fun process that will keep you motivated to keep learning more. I have a way of simplifying songs so anyone can start playing guitar within a few lessons. I also have a very patient teaching method that my students appreciate. I do refer to a few books by Hal Leonard or Alfred to get the students on the right track. Read More

I first taught about 45 years ago when I was a teenager. Since then I have been helping people learn more about playing music on both a casual and professional basis. I strive to discover where the student is and what they want to accomplish. I also train students in Music Theory, reading and transcription because it is important that musicians are able to communicate with other players clearly. Music is vital to my life and I am grateful to those who helped me - I hope to have a positive impact on the folks who I get to work with. Read More

I have put in a lot of dull studio time and years of practice and private lessons. I have taught hundreds of students over the years and I find that most new musicians just want to play for the fun of playing! That's my goal. Not everyone will be a rock star. The financial rewards are often limited, but the joy of music is priceless. I want to spread the joy of music to every student I teach. Read More

My methods really depend on the level of the student. For beginners, I tend to stick to basics by teaching them chords, scales, and basic music theory; by using music that they would like to learn how to play. To aid with the learning of basic music theory, I might have the students learn some older music, just as a chance to analyze it, but nothing more than that unless of course they would like to.
