The methods that I choose to use with my students depends on what they want to learn. Some students want to just play classical music, some pop, some jazz, some marching band, etc. Therefore I do not use the same teaching methods for all students. With that being said, I do make certain that all of my srudents understand the basic elements of music, i.e., time and key signatures, note values, melody, rhythm, harmony, pitch, intonation (if a wind instrument), form, theme and variation, etc. Read More

YEARS 1-2: BEGINNER LEVEL Foundation-building happens here. Each student learns approximately 30-40 pieces throughout the year, and participates in 2-3 recitals and possibly an adjudicated event. Students finish 1 theory/activity book per year on average. Practice expectation is 10-20 minutes per day, 5-6 days per week. Student music requests are encouraged. YEARS 3-4: LATE BEGINNER LEVEL Continued foundation-building and more creativity start to happen in these two years. Each student learns approximately 20-30 longer and more challenging pieces throughout the year, and participates in 3-4 recitals and possibly an adjudicated event. Read More

I am very familiar with all of the standard piano methods, and will evaluate the student in the first few lessons to choose a method that they will be the most comfortable with. I supplement all lessons with music theory and outside repertoire, allowing the students to choose from their favorite genres/artists. For theatre, musical theatre, and vocal coaching, I also employ Linklater and Alexander techniques. I also really enjoy exposing students to styles, genres or artists that they might not be familiar with along with the history behind the music they're learning! Read More

I see every lesson as a collaborative effort between teacher and student, and I always strive to create an engaging and positive environment, where students feel encouraged and motivated to advance their musical skills. For some, this may mean selecting a piece of music that is of particular interest to the student (perhaps even one of their own compositions), and tailoring exercises to work towards specific goals for that piece. Once the student begins to progress more, I will then move forward to more complex terms, theory and genres of music that it is applied. For older students and adults, I will ask what their goal is in wanting lessons with me and I will do my very best to keep the lesson engaging, fun and I will guide them as clear as I can to reach their dreams and beyond. I started giving Music lessons 20 years ago. I began giving private lessons and group lessons part time in the afternoons after I finish school in the mornings. Young students come to me asking me for lessons after a Gig or performance. I found very interesting and exiting to see the progress of the students with my own personal methods. We follow a process with disciple but we also have fun and we go to the direction that the student feels more attracted. Read More
