I start beginners with the drum rudiments and chart reading. This gets them able to move their hands and feet for better coordination. After they have better coordination I introduce ear training which is playing along to their favorite songs. This teaches the student how toplay with a band. I relay this to students by repetition (specifically of principles), though I keep it fun and exciting by varying the application. Once the principle is fully grasped, we move on.
