After seeing an unforgettable performance by the Blue Man Group, I became inspired to start playing the drums at 10 years old. I participated in every school ensemble possible throughout elementary school, middle school, and high school including jazz band, marching band, pit orchestra, jazz combo, concert band, and a blues/rock band outside of school that regularly performed around southern New Jersey and Philadelphia. I believe the proper technique is essential in order to be a successful percussionist. We would start by how to hold the stick properly, whether it be matched grip or traditional grip. From there we would move on to how to properly hit the drum and bounce the stick.
