Teaching has always been an important part of my life along side my recording and performing career. I love teaching and find it inspiring . I started teaching at the age of twenty at my home in Israel and later along side my very first teacher David Rich we opened a drum school called Metronome. Over the years I gained much experience and developed teaching techniques that are both entertaining and serious at the same time. Read More

For students who are children I like to start to start learning rhythms through common children’s songs to show how easy music can be. Depending on the instrument, one of the many Hal Leonard books is always a good option. If they are a little older, I will use music that they like to teach how music theory and fundamental skills makes up all the musi they enjoy. We will often learn songs that speak to them and I will use their favorite genres to curate new songs to teach and show them new material and how it relates to their instrument. Read More

My students continue to do very well. Former students can be found performing and teaching in major cities throughout the nation. In fact, they currently make up the majority of drum teachers throughout the Wayne, Pike and Susquehanna counties of NEPA. Younger students do well within their district/region/state. They regularly attend major conservatories, play clubs, cruise ships, or tour and record with label signed bands. Read More

In my experience, I find the most effective method of teaching music involves a combination of traditional instruction with contemporary examples to fit the student's goals. This involves identifying what the student needs to learn and including songs the student is familiar with or enjoys demonstrating the concepts or techniques on the agenda. This both encourages the student to practice and keeps them interested in the material. Most importantly, though, is guaranteeing that the student feels motivated and acquires a sense of accomplishment. Read More

I teach my students to read music as well as to play by ear. I host 2 recitals each year. We learn one song start to finish and I hire a professional band to learn and perform the songs with my students at a local establishment or at my studio. I encourage all of my students to perform with our recital band. As far as books, I prefer to use the "new Breed", by Gary Chester, the ''Art of Bop Drumming'', by John Riley , and the ''encyclopedia of reading rhythms'', by Garry Hess, but there are many other books I recommend for specific needs. My teaching style is fueled by my passion for music and I hope it ignites my students to develop a passion for music too. My lessons require a combined effort on the teacher and student's part. I will work with each student independently until they feel comfortable with the material that have learned. The duration of the lesson is up to the student. I am willing to work with my students to help them feel achieve this goal. Read More

When teaching a novice student the drums it is extremely important to note that learning the drums is not an overnight affair. The amount of practice needed for thorough syncopation is not to be slept on. HOWEVER, I genuinely believe once a student hits that learning curve where their arms and legs have "minds of their own" there is an infinite amount of progress that can be made after. I always say music is fun and it should always be whether the student is practicing rudiments, or legitimately playing to pieces from Glen Miller's Orchestra all the way up to Michael Jackson.
