Instruments: Drums
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with rudiments on a snare drum before approaching a drum kit. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce them to a small basic drum kit set up using only the snare, hi hat, and kick drum. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs for them to grow as percussionist and general musicianship. Read More

I have been teaching private lessons for about 15 years, as well as camps and workshops. I have served as a clinician and instructor at Drumline camps and with Orchestra. I created the Percussive Arts Institute of Ruston to bring music education to an underserved community and taught around 100 students in an after-school program. Most of my students study the fundamentals of piano and voice, and then Branch into either percussion, guitar, strings, or brass, as they develop their interests. Read More

I have the most Experience using the following Method Books: Standard of Excellence, Essential Elements, Accent on Achievement, Instrumental Methods and many other methods. Initially (and throughout) I place a high value on performance fundamentals. I start with a focus on proper posture and breathing. Once this can be executed I breakdown the nomenclature of the student's instrument, how to put it together and break it down. Next the focus becomes proper grip for mallets/sticks and embouchure placement for winds. Read More
Instruments: Piano Drums
For drums I would start off by showing them different parts of the drums and how it operates. After that I would then tell them the name and give them hacks to remember each part of the drum set. Once that is done I would then allow them to hit each drum piece to get a feel on how it sounds. Once that is over I would then show them how to hold their sticks which often times is traditional grip. Read More

Music has and is still a huge part of my life. It's one of two things that I feel is worth pursuing no matter the cost. I started my musical journey at the age of 8 playing drums. By the age of 16 I started playing piano/keyboard in church and learned by ear. At Marquette University and The Institute of Production and Recording I earned A's in all my music theory classes. I love to show students how fun the world of music is. While showing students the fun aspect of music I teach them the essentials of what they need to learn to be succesful as a musician. If the students are having a good time learning then they'll be more inspired to be the best they can be on their instrument! Read More
