My name is Kenny Redding Jr. and I've been teaching for 6 years. I began playing piano, drums and singing at the age of 4. Since then I studied and performed on multiple instruments including piano, vocals, viola, cello, non-pitched percussion, bass. My studies include Professional Music - Contemporary Writing Production at Berklee College of Music, Music Production at Full Sail University. During this time I was fortunate enough to acquire an extensive amount of knowledge training that I feel are essential tools for success in music.Whether it was composing for film or performing classical improvisation live on broadway,I've been able to apply these tools throughout my most recent years ofwork experience. My experience of teaching music started as I recieved the opportunity to be a student teacher at an elementary school in Montgomery, Alabama. I used this time to help students become interested in learning about music through; presenting various instruments for the class to observe and using creative teaching methods that include music for an easier comprehension tool with their school work. I am also able to relate to students that are older and those who are adults. Read More

I began teaching private lessons full time in 2011. I know that when students have fun and see progress at every lesson, they are motivated to become better musicians. As a result, progress is quicker and my students retain what they have learned. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music, as well as learning music I have composed, helps students enjoy the piano and motivates them to practice and continue to see improvements in their understanding and playing abilities. I like to start out with the Hannon Book. That has various excercises that helps with note recognition. Worksheets will be given out with those as well. Teaching students HOW to read notes, and HOW to recognize them takes a few weeks so that's normally what i like to start with. Once they grasp those fundimentals, then we move on to learning songs they are familiar with such as London Bridge, This Old Man, Mary Had A Little Lamb etc. Read More

It my job to meet the student where he/she from skill set standpoint and interest level. Then I build the skills accordingly. Once I begin to intervene with my students,I make the lessons approachable, so that the students feel comfortable, confident and challenged at the same time. I am gentle, however, my expectations are high, even for my lowest student. It is my belief is that as long as there is a desire for excellence, I will help you to the top! If a student is willing to grow, then I am willing to show them the road map to meeting his/her fullest potential! Read More

My goal for every student is to experience learning their instruments in an environment that is both encouraging and rewarding. I exhibit patience with the student knowing what it takes to develop new skills and I work hard in helping each student feel at ease in expressing themselves. I have used many different materials over the years, depending on the individual student's needs and desires to play their music. I do stress learning to read music notation so that you can approach with confidence any piece of music that you would like to play. Read More

There is no such thing as a "best method for everybody" but better methods for people's unique needs. For beginners, texts from Hal Leonard, Jamey Aebersold and Alfred's piano course are great examples to guide students through, but ultimately the specific text doesn't matter as long as I can teach the fundamentals necessary to be performance ready. After the basics are mastered, I'll introduce the skills needed for a first recital. Read More
