I started teaching private lessons in high school, for free, to other students in the percussion section of both the concert and marching bands. Shortly after starting as a music major at Asbury Univeristy I continued to teach lessons. During my collegiate years I also was involved in taking private lessons and playing for all available percussion-needed ensembles (concert band, jazz band, orchestra, etc.). Consistenly since leaving high school I have also played in both rock bands and wedding bands and I consider these to be extremely helpful in my teaching experience. Read More

I believe lessons should be fun. Yes, learning music can and should be challenging. But it also needs to be fun. I am a very performance-oriented teacher. So, once I get to know a student, we begin preparing to perform. If we are having fun while we work, we don't even realize we are working. Giving students really solid practice skills they can do on their own keeps them engaged. Read More

One of my main jobs after graduating The Institute of Production and Recording was teaching music lessons. Since 2011 I've taught drums and piano lessons for various companies from ages 3-40. To see a student who has a serious passion for music grow from not knowing anything about the piano or drums to making music is probably one of the most fulfilling feelings I could have. I believe making a connection with the student fuels the connection to the music. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I access their skills after a handful of lessons and adjust to their needs going forward for them to continue to advance as musicians. Read More

I believe the only way to get better at something is through dedication and practice. We will set goals for each lesson and for each practice week. I also believe that it's better to practice a little everyday than a lot once or twice a week.Step by step, little by little, any student can reach their goals. Read More

experience: I started teaching back in high school to a few friends. It grew from there. I absolutely love it. My father teaches guitar, My brother teaches drums as well. They are back in Iowa. I do swear by the books I received at AIMM. Once a student grasps reading, there is no stopping him or her. I love to teach every style under the sun. Read More
