Instruments: Guitar
I started playing guitar at 13 years old, way back in 1996. I taught myself for about 5 years before taking up lessons. I studied classical and jazz under Danny Smith, a student of Andres Segovia who is a famous classical guitarist. I love all types of music and over the years I have played in jazz, rock, blues, metal, punk, folk, and country bands. I love to teach and spread the joy of music to anyone who is interested. Every student has a unique journey. My goal as a teacher is always to build understanding for my students, and never utilize methods that are 'tricking' anyone into success. I want to give my students the tools to begin finding success on their own and grow independently of my teaching. I utilize systematic approaches to building progress, giving exercises that the student can take home and practice daily to ensure rapid progression. Read More

I created the Percussive Arts Institute of Ruston to bring music education to an underserved community and taught around 100 students in an after-school program. Most of my students study the fundamentals of piano and voice, and then Branch into either percussion, guitar, strings, or brass, as they develop their interests. Read More

Instruments: Guitar
The approach I feel works best for teaching students how to play guitar, is to try to create a positive feedback loop. This can be created by finding music that the student likes and that challenges them, but isn't overly difficult to the point that they have to slog through it for months to get anywhere. I also emphasize the point of getting the guitar into their hands everyday. It helps a lot hack away at it as much as possible. Read More

My Bachelor's of Music Ed, and my Master's of Music in Performance are from LSU-Monroe where I was principle in both band and orchestra, and lead trombone in the jazz ensemble. I have taught band in both public and private schools, and have served as Music Director in two churches. I have approximately 30 years experience teaching privately. Read More

I graduated from the University of Alabama in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and a minor in Spanish. I love music as a way to challenge myself and others, to communicate things that words can't say, and to take us to new and exciting places. Read More
