For beginners, I start with chord study. I like to incorporate teaching songs the student is interested in. This keeps students engaged and gives them something they'll look forward to practice. Once a basic understanding of chords is achieved, I move on the notes on the fretboard and music patterns and intervals to help gain an understanding of how the guitar works. My teaching experience started when a good friend introduced me to a family that has two daughters that were interested in learning music. The 11 year old wanted to learn how to play the drum set and the 14 year old was interested in playing the guitar.
