Music is my passion and I love sharing it with others. I've been an instructor for drums and percussion for over twenty years. After graduating from Berklee College of Music, I moved to L.A. where I continued my studies alongside ultra professional drummers Dave Weckl Chad Wackerman. While living in California I was able to gain invaluable experience performing on stage and recording in major studios. After moving back to the east coast I remain active in the music scene local to Baltimore, Maryland as well as playing nationally with groups ranging from Nashville, California and New York. On the first lesson, I like to help students create realistic, long-term goals for themselves. Then the student and I develop a plan to help them achieve them. Learning tools include method books, recordings of the lesson, and playing along with me. I also make solo pieces available, and encourage the student to participate in local recitals. Having relocated to the DMV, I direct the marching percussion program at Annapolis High School, substitute teaches at 7DrumCity in DC, and founded my home studio, Groh Studios, in 2018. My students have gone on to study music at Monmouth College, Eastern Illinois University, Lawrence University, McNally Smith College of Music, IUPUI, and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
