I have been teaching for 8 years, getting my start in my home town of Nyack, NY teaching jazz combos and private lessons at the Nyack Summer Music Camp. Since then, I taught private lessons to students of all abilities at Oberlin for 5 years, I was a staff teacher at the Avon School of Music in Avon, Ohio, I was a music instructor and counselor at Camp Encore/Coda in Maine, as well as other camps more local to NY, and I am currently an employee of the Afro Latin Jazz Alliance, where I am teaching music to kids at P.S 246. That doesn't necessarily mean that I am not "tough" on a student. I think it is important to be honest and hold students accountable. I began my relationship with much when I starting playing drums at age 7. I played in percussion in school bands for a few years then I found the drum set. I found discipline and independence through the drum set, and soon started learning guitar and piano. I attended Berklee College of Music for Contemporary Writing & Production, with a focus in Drumset performance. While at Berklee, I played drumset/percussion in musical theater productions for other Boston colleges (Boston Conservatory, Emerson) and played with local bands in the Boston area. Read More

For the older students I love to help get them into bands and open jams so they can experience playing live in front of a crowd and with other musicians. I love teaching and playing all styles of music from Jazz, Metal, Rock, Latin, Rap, Reggae, etc. When I'm not teaching I am traveling with various bands around the country and playing on major music festivals. I use all types of books including Syncopation, Stick Control, New Breed, Advanced Funk Studies. Also I like to use other media where possible to teach different styles. Once the beginning student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce more musical applications related to real music. Preferably music the student is interested to learn to play.
