I think focusing on the basics is very important, but I think it is equally important to engage the student. I always want to know what type of music the student is interested in so they can learn how to play it. Combining basics plus their own interests is something that is very important for me. I also think reading music and teaching out of books is very important. Although it can be a bit annoying to read and do all these exercises. Read More

I like the student to pick their area of interest of musical genre. From there, we develop the style in accordance to the students desire.Chord theory, structure, soloing are all part of the training.Students pick the songs and we take it from there. While method books are available, most are boring examples of how to attain artistry. I began teaching in my college days, when I would help friends learn different instruments. My experience includes working at School of Rock Red Bank, where I taught guitar, drums and bass. I encourage my students to develop their own musical tastes and to learn music as a language. As a songwriter, I think that it is always a good idea for students of any level to pursue their own compositional goals. Read More

I am aware that the abilities and goals of each student vary, which is why I work to tailor a lesson plan structured around each student as an individual. While you will be professionally trained on the drumset and studying the fundamentals of music, you will also be encouraged to have fun and learn what most interests you. . We will listen to recordings and talk about music while I learn what inspires you. Read More

My teaching style adapts to the necessity, interest and pace of the students. If you are more interested in building a technique playing we can get very methodical studying from the books but if you really want to play, we are gonna play! A big part of my teaching is playing with the students or creating sequences (play alongs) so the student practices music in context. It could be frustrating and boring when technique is de-contextualized. Read More
