Depending on the instrument I’m teaching and the skill level of the student I’m usually going to start of with a 10 to 15 minute session of evaluation and assessment of needs acquired skills and students desires .we can then begin with exercising proper warm up posture and position .and run through warm up scales and learn rutiments or attack the desired skill requirements straight ahead depending on the students development.Music is an art and a discipline.it is a relationship one has with there instrument.my songs and instruments become like family ,well charrished!!!! If they are just starting out I'll start with the basics, how to hold a drumstick, the parts of the drum set, correct posture, etc. I believe that all students regardless of age and level should learn how to read music. When I see a student struggling, I will offer the techniques that I would typically use, however there is no ONE right way to do everything. I encourage independent learning and going beyond the lesson. IF A STUDENT ONLY IS PRACTICING WHILE IN THE LESSON, WE CANNOT ADVANCE AS QUICKLY AS I PLAN.
