I first start off with hand posture: simply learning to hold the sticks correctly eludes even some adults. no matter how far a student has advanced, I always watch their hands. a good hand posture will help the students' sound, as well as help prevent injury. He played in his schools string orchestra, the Conejo Youth Symphony, and was awarded the opportunity to perform at the Music Teacher's Association convention in Sacramento. I find the interests of a student and construct exercises that will allow them to play closer to what they most enjoy, while also disciplining in drumming fundamentals. I assign realistic homework practices that can be modified for use on a practice pad or full drum kit. Read More
