I'm mostly focused on keeping my students engaged with music. Some decide it can be a lifetime career, while others simply want to enjoy all the benefits that come from learning an instrument. Our lessons are meant to challenge you enough so you feel motivated but not so much that the challenge appears as impossible and students feel like quitting. This to me is the basic principle of how to achieve a balanced and successful life. Read More

I have taught at several schools including one in which I graduated from, and privately on my own as well. I've played with a wide variety of musicians, both experienced and unexperienced, young and old, and have learned from all of my experiences. I look forward to helping create new young musicians that will eventually be the world's leaders in creativity, and those who wish to learn music as a self-rewarding experience. Read More

Seeing a student take on a challenging piece is more rewarding to me than anything. When I see a student struggling, I will offer the techniques that I would typically use, however there is no ONE right way to do everything. I encourage independent learning and going beyond the lesson. IF A STUDENT ONLY IS PRACTICING WHILE IN THE LESSON, WE CANNOT ADVANCE AS QUICKLY AS I PLAN. This will result in repeating lessons, which I avoid at all costs. Read More

My passion for working with students started in high school. I was a long time counselor at my high school's summer day camp and acted as a leader to a group of kids from 2nd grade to 4th grade. In college that passion, combined with my passion for music, led me to major in music education. While at Willamette I helped middle schools and high schools in the community by serving as a percussion specialist running sectionals or coaching jazz rhythm sections. Read More

My teaching style is a blend of structure, creativity, and student-centered guidance. I believe that great teaching begins with connectionunderstanding who the student is, what inspires them, and how they learn best. Whether Im teaching a child just discovering rhythm or a teenager preparing for performance or recording, I strive to create a learning environment that is both challenging and encouraging. Each lesson is goal-oriented but never rigid. I use clear objectives to track progress while remaining flexible enough to adapt to the students pace, curiosity, and energy. Read More
