Once we have this initial discussion, I begin to build the foundation for the lesson plan and my teaching. For example, if a student mentions they enjoy playing Rock and Roll, I will begin with that particular style and simplify it for them. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I began teaching private lessons at the age of 15 while attending high school in Millbrook. These students spanned from beginner to intermediate levels. I saw vast improvements from seeing them on a weekly basis and seeing that progress motivated me to have a very regimented, but fun lesson planned for each week.
