I focus on nurturing a students natural curiosity, while helping them find the tools to pursue their own musical interests. Many of my younger students prefer to use technology to connect with music (learning how songs are recorded, and the theory behind songwriting), but I also work with more serious students to prepare for college auditions, state/regional jazz band, etc. My methods differ depending on a student's own goals, but they generally all will start with a technical exercise, an exercise designed to get the student thinking critically, and an application of the concepts we're learning. I'm very passionate about music and sharing the knowledge I know to students. I was raised in Honolulu, Hawaii and started playing the drums when I was 8. I started out playing rock/pop and then slowly went into jazz. Now I am interested in playing a wide array of genres. I graduated from the Manhattan School of Music with a Bachelor's in Jazz Performance. I have traveled to many places across the world to play music: such as China, Mexico, Hawaii, and here in New York. Read More

I draw inspiration largely from my Rudolf Steiner-inspired pre-college education and my Carl Orff-inspired higher education. Waldorf/Steiner education "emphasizes the role of imagination in learning, striving to integrate holistically the intellectual, practical, and artistic development of pupils" while the Orff Approach "combines music, movement, drama, and speech into lessons that are similar to child's world of play." For beginners I usually begin with Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone and Fundamental Studies for Snare Drum by Garwood Whaley. Once the student has a good grasp on basic reading and technique, I usually introduce rudiments and start working on solo or play along repertoire. I also like to use The Drum Set Musician by Rod Morgenstein. Besides book work I also like to bring in things that I am working on either with bands I play with or personal projects. Read More

I started teaching drums back when I was in High School, in France. Since then, I have had the chance to teach students from all ages and background. I love to adapt the different goals that different people can have. As long as my students are willing to have fun and open their ears, everything is achievable. I really encourage students to find out which songs/genre they enjoy and make them play along with music to recreate a live band playing experience. Read More

I take each student on a musical journey that will motivate and encourage them as a drummer. I teach all students the basics and guide them towards the proper way to practice between lessons, which are the building blocks to growing and improving as a musician and as a drummer. My approach towards teaching and instruction is structured and organic. Students learn the basics and improve through progressive learning but it's the methods and techniques that I employ that ensures every student learns correctly and at their own pace. Read More

Everyone who picks up an instrument is not going to tour the world as a musician. While this is true, every student can play and be proud. It is my job to help students progress and reach that level. I like to keep lessons light in attitude, but still put responsibility on my students. Work outside of lessons is a must for progress, even if only ten minutes is all that is possible. One of my goals is to show students how to reflect on whatever work they are doing and tell for themselves whether it is good work or not. Read More
